Currently available- 9’ 3/2 Dickerson 901812 Tournament. 5.35 oz. for a 6 to 7 line. Made in 1946 for John S. Sweeney Jr. Standard brown wraps with black tipping. Reverse half wells grip and seldom seen up-locking reel seat with walnut spacer. Originally from the Sweeney collection that was shown on page 54 of the book, Dickerson: The Man and His Rods. The Sweeney collection was sold in 1972 by the original Wanigas Rod Co. The sticker from the sale is still present on the tube cap, showing rod #22 and the price of $40.
This rod is hollow built in the butt section and mid section. It was compared & weighed against another 901812 from the Sweeney collection. No significant taper difference, but a significant weight difference in the butt and mid. The Dickerson model 901812 generally weighs a minimum of
5.75 oz.
The Tournament was a catalogued model; however, this is the only one I have seen firsthand and only five are listed in Dickerson's production ledger. This Dickerson is an affordable entry for a first-time Dickerson acquisition or a unique example for a Dickerson collection. Excellent original condition. Ferrule fit is great & rod is straight. Original bag & tube. $2600.
