Lyle Dickerson was more than a rod craftsman. In addition to all the wonderful rods he produced and the rodmaking machinery he devised and built, it is known that he enjoyed branching out into other areas. He designed and built some superb landing nets early in his career*. In his later years, after selling the rod shop to Tim Bedford, Dickerson still had an interest in being creative with his hands. At age of eighty, Dickerson began making Grandfather clocks and it is believed he made 32 total. He also made hand carved walnut lamps and candle stick holders. Finally, when Dickerson felt he could no longer do the physical labor required by clock making, he took up lapidary, the art of hand-cutting gemstones. With this skill he produced his own jewelry.

*The well crafted Dickerson fishing nets are among the finest vintage nets to be found. While Lyle promoted and sold them, most were not made by him. In a letter written in 1988 by Lyle's good friend Dick Loebl, he states that although Lyle might have designed the net and made a few from time to time early on, it was Lyle's brother Fred that made the majority of them.
