Lyle Dickerson's biography has been published in detail previously.  Offered here is a brief timeline showing major events in Dickerson's  life and career.  Additional detailed information will be presented throughout the individual sections of the site.


  • Born in Bellaire Michigan 1892
  • Graduated from Bellaire High School 1910
  • Taught elementary school for a brief period in Mount Bliss, MI
  • Attended Hillsdale College in 1911. Left after two years due to lack of funds 
  • Lived in Chicago from 1913-15
  • Returned to Michigan and worked for Grand Rapids Power & Gas Co.
  • Enlisted in the military in March 1918 during WWl and was discharged at the end of the war 
  • Returned to Michigan and married Peg Klagstag in late 1918
  • Moved to Chicago for a brief period
  • Settled in Detroit after returning from Chicago
  • Worked for Packard as a Truck Division salesman until 1925, when Packard went out of the truck business
  • Worked for White Motor Co. selling trucks. Unfortunately they went out of business as well 
  • Worked in the Detroit area selling bonds and real estate until the stock market crash in 1929
  • 1929-30 Experimental rod making and development 
  • First offered rods for sale in January 1931
  • 1935 Started business relationship with Ray Bergman
  • War interrupts rod making, production ceases (1942-45) 
  • 1946 Production resumes to an all-time high level of 176 rods made in a year
  • 1959 First wife Peg passes away
  • 1960 Only one rod listed in records as being produced
  • 1960 Unofficially retires, moves to Bellaire, MI. No more rods recorded in ledger.
  • 1961 Remarries to Gertrude Greenwood
  • 1960-1972 Dickerson continues to make rods "off the books"
  • 1972 Sells rod shop to Tim Bedford
  • 1973 Second wife Gertrude passes away
  • 1972-81 Stays active with clock making, woodworking, and lapidary
  • June 16, 1981, Lyle Dickerson passes away at the age of 89
